Silk Farm, Siem Reap

Cambodia produced many cotton and silk textiles. The textile industry is the most important industry here. They rear silkworm, and use traditional way to process to get the silk. DSCN4092 life cycle of a silkworm DSCN2587 all of them are put in here with their food. DSCN4088 then they started eating happily till fat fat IMG_4800 their food DSCN2589 afterthat they will start wrapping themselves IMG_4807 afterthat they wil go for sun bath to kill all the germs and kill the cocoon inside IMG_4809 This is where they start taking the thread from the cocoon. Put them into hot water, then use this machine to take out the thread. IMG_4813 all use man power DSCN2596 IMG_4816 IMG_4817 They use natural resource such as flower and leaves as dye The most important silk textiles of Cambodia are the ikat silks (hol), twill-patterned, weft ikat textiles. The pattern is made by tying vegetable or synthetic fibers on sections of the weft threads before the threads are dyed. This process is repeated for different colored dye baths until the patterns are formed and the cloth is woven. The two types of hol textiles have five traditional colors: red, yellow, green, blue, and black. IMG_4832 IMG_4831 The workers here earn about 50-60 dollar per month only. rich people's one meal can easily costs more than that. They are using all the traditional way from rearing the silkworm till produce the textile. The product is as good as or even better than those using machine. with love
