Tonlé Sap , Siem Reap

On 22 Dec, I went to Siem Reap, Cambodia with my family. Before I went to there, I'm not so familiar with this country. What I know is there was a war in the country many years ago. after spending few days in there, I found that Siem Reap is a very nice place which I like a lot. Peaceful and tranquil. The time in Siem Reap for me is kind of like, a revision on the history. Many familiar names and stories. The people there are simple and friendly. Departed from LCCT at 6.45am and reached Siem Reap International Airport at 7.15am. it is actually a 1.5 hour of flight. As the local time in Cambodia is 1 hour slower than Malaysia's, it looks like the flight is only half an hour haha. Met up with the tour guide, he is a 30 years old chinese cambodian, Mr Tang Sun. I have to say, the first impression that he gave me is not so good. too serious. But i totally change my view after spending the time with him. US dollar and Riel can be used in here. I will introduce the first attraction in Siem Reap, that is the Tonle Sap Lake . This name is familiar to everyone (I assumed) as our Sejarah textbook often mentioned about it. Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. It is special as its portion varies depending on the seasons. There're 2 seasons in Cambodia, that is the Rainy season (May til Oct) and Dry season (Nov til April). In dry season, it drains into Mekong River in Phnom Penh., it is about 2700 square km. In rainy season, it backs up to a very very huge lake which is about 16000 square km. hahaha it is more like sea than a lake. The area is home to many ethnic Vietnamese and numerous Cham communities, living in floating village around the lake. DSCN2607 Use this kind of boat to visit the lake. It is about $10/pax DSCN2639 DSCN2622 The floating village. The boat can be their house/shop/school IMG_4850 Saw the pink colour thingy in the middle of the photo? it is a pig sleeping :D DSCN2681 The villagers came back from fishing. The people in small boat outside is opening up the net, can see many small fish stucking on it. DSCN2608 Some houses/factories are building up at the side. DSCN2633 There's a small market in the middle. You can see the lake from the top of there. It is kinda nice. IMG_4861 IMG_4860 DSCN2638 In the market, there's a place below rearing crocodiles. IMG_4866 Not only crocodiles.. snake also :/ IMG_4873 The small kid was sitting in the basin with a stick and a cup. then he can start moving to here and there edi. He has to pour out the water using the cup from basin while rowing. It looks easy but actually it is not ! And they put their baby on their small boat. while the boat is moving, it became a cradle. IMG_4877 They go near the boat with tourists, then asking for money or selling some drinks/stuff. DSCN4106 IMG_4840 DSCN4105 At the side of the lake, poor maintenance and small houses are built. When we passed by that place, all of us can't bear with the smell. It was too smelly because the rubbish is everywhere. It was really dirty. IMG_4834 IMG_4854 The restaurant IMG_4878 The school. Korea helped the people here to build school The villagers drink the lake water, use it to bathe and cook, and it is also their toilet. The lake water is yellowish. Feel kinda pity to the people there. The condition there is very poor. Small kids din wear clothes and have to go out to beg for money or sell things to earn money for the family. Everyone din wear shoes. They use the original method to cook, no light, get the natural resources around them as food. They seldom contact with the society outside . Youngsters are normally go to the city for a better living. I feel so blessed for having everything I need in my life. With love
